Does your child dream of owning or riding a horse ? You will become parent of the year by giving your child the experience of owning & learning to ride a horse during one of our weeklong summer camps.
Heatherwood’s Camps are both fun & educational.
We teach English style horseback riding. A camp week is Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 3 PM. Camp is available to children ages 5 – 15 yrs old. No experience is necessary – we teach beginners through advanced riders. Our camper to counselor ratio is 1 counselor for every 2 campers. Campers are never left alone with a horse. Many campers return year after year they enjoy the camp so much ! The camp tuition is $480 per week for 2024.
We start accepting applications in January each year. The camp is not cancelled due to bad weather. We have an indoor riding arena and we work inside during rainy days.
Campers are assigned their own horse for the week. They learn about the 13 different horse breeds we have at Heatherwood, safety around horses, how horses think, anatomy, feeding, grooming, saddling, bathing, hoof care, health, measuring & weighing horses, maintaining a healthy environment and riding 2 times each day.
The campers progress their riding based on physical abilities and confidence around the horses. We utilize our indoor & outdoor riding arenas as well as a trail ride on the wooded riding trails. Campers even play games on horseback in order to reinforce the riding skills they will learn.
Everything we do in our camp is horse related. We have lots of fun making a horse related craft as well as having a horse costume contest and playing games involving terms related to their horses & equipment.
On Friday afternoon our campers will put on a show to demonstrate their knowledge about horses and their riding skills. They really enjoy the chance to show their guests everything they have learned during this exciting camp week.
After receiving an application & release you will be sent a confirmation of your child’s camp week, a list of what to bring to camp and daily activities.
